Liah Amori
poet & visual artist

Liah Amori is a poet and visual artist from Louisiana. She found many ways to express herself creatively throughout her adolescence from making up fanciful stories to experimenting with various painting mediums. Her work is the result of a homegrown love of a culture in which art permeates daily life. From her grandmothers' kitchens to the streets of New Orleans and back, Liah learned the beauty and power of making something that extends beyond oneself to nourish and support others.

Influenced by the brilliant resourcefulness of her loved ones and community, Liah creates mixed medium artwork using items that might otherwise be forgotten or thrown away. The vibrant colors and rich textures of nature are also vital to her craft. Thematically, her portraits and collages reflect an interest in and dedication to exploring concepts such as identity, beauty, and love.

Though her list of inspirations is infinite, Liah often cites Zora Neale Hurston and the Black Arts Movement as integral to her work as well as her commitment to utilizing her gifts in service of establishing a world in which liberation and equity for all people is a reality.
